When visiting San Diego, there are countless ways to get outside and soak in the California sunshine. Relax by the rooftop pool at InterContinental San Diego, or discover all there is to do and see at the waterfront Embarcadero. There are also plenty of things to do for those who love to find ways to sneak workouts into their vacations. Biking the trails in San Diego is a great way to explore while working up a sweat.

3 Top San Diego Bike Trails

Before setting off on your bike excursion, you need the proper equipment. Local shops like San Diego Bike Shop and Wheel Fun Rentals offer several rental options, including electric bikes, hybrid options, or mountain bikes. You can also get set up with things like helmets and other accessories. Once you have everything, fill up your water bottle and head out on one of these incredible trails.

1. Cross the historic bridge onto Coronado on the Bayshore Bikeway. The 24-mile trail features 13 miles of car-free paths and starts at the Coronado Ferry Landing. Make your way past landmarks like Hotel del Coronado and the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
2. Due to being a completely flat trail, the 12-mile Mission Bay Bike Path is excellent for those biking with children. During your ride, keep your eyes open to see what animals you can spot on the water.
3. There are several trails to explore within Mission Trails Regional Park. Home to more than 60 miles of trails, there are options for bikers of all levels. Ride along a 2.5-mile out-and-back trail to the Old Mission Damn, or explore the path around Lake Murray.
