A Checklist of 5 Colorful Attractions
- Several of the top area gardens are found within Balboa Park. Walk among some of the largest cactus species inside the Kate O. Sessions Cactus Garden, or smell the roses in the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden.
- While the San Diego Botanic Garden is found outside of San Diego, it’s worth a visit. Located in nearby Encinitas, the 37-acre space is home to more than 5,000 species of plants and 29 uniquely themed gardens. You’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to explore all the beauty found here.
- The Point Loma Native Plant Garden is one of the top hidden gems in San Diego. The garden is part of Collier Park West and features some plants that are not found naturally anywhere else but in this region.
- One of the most stunning sights in the area only happens for a few weeks out of the year. The Flower Fields in Carlsbad bloom from about early March through early May. Taking in the annual burst of color is a must for anyone staying with us during that time.
- Perhaps the most unique garden in San Diego is one in front of someone’s house. Edna Harper’s Topiary Garden takes over the front yard of a home on Union Street. It’s free to visit, but please keep your hands off the plants.
